A full-time Beekeeper is required to assist with the management of apiary operations in North Canterbury. This role involves maintaining healthy bee colonies, managing hive operations, and supporting honey production activities across multiple apiary sites. The position requires outdoor work in varying weather conditions and may involve travel between hive locations.
Key Responsibilities

Inspect, maintain, and manage beehives to ensure strong and healthy bee colonies.

Perform hive maintenance tasks including splitting hives, re-queening, and relocating colonies when required.

Monitor bee health and manage pests and diseases, including varroa mite control.

Harvest honey and other bee products in accordance with food safety and quality standards.

Assemble, repair, and maintain beekeeping equipment such as hive boxes, frames, and tools.

Assist with transporting hives and equipment between apiary sites.

Maintain accurate records of hive inspections, treatments, and honey production.

Follow all health, safety, and biosecurity procedures when working with bees and equipment.
Minimum Requirements

At least 5 years of proven and documented experience working in beekeeping or commercial apiary operations.

Strong knowledge of hive management, bee behaviour, and honey production processes.

Ability to work outdoors in physically demanding conditions and varying weather.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

A full and current driver’s licence is required.

Willingness to travel between apiary sites when required.
