An opportunity is available for a CNC Laser Cutter & Fabricator to join an established engineering and manufacturing operation in Nelson.

This position is suited to someone with fabrication experience who is looking to further develop specialist skills in CNC laser cutting, light fabrication, estimating, and engineering production processes.

The successful applicant will receive ongoing development while supporting production and fabrication teams across a range of engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and develop capability using CNC laser cutting equipment.
  • Interpret production detail sheets, engineering drawings, and specifications to determine material and job requirements.
  • Select operating methods, machine settings, and production sequences to achieve efficient outcomes.
  • Produce fabricated components accurately while minimising waste.
  • Perform machine setup, adjustments, basic programming, and operational maintenance activities.
  • Inspect fabricated parts for dimensional accuracy, fit, and quality.
  • Support fabrication teams by delivering accurate and timely production outputs.
  • Assist with estimating and drafting activities to support engineering workflows.
  • Collaborate with drafting and design teams to meet customer specifications and quality expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to process and productivity improvements.
  • Follow all workplace health, safety, and quality procedures and standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 3 years of proven and documented experience in light fabrication, engineering manufacturing, CNC operation, or a related fabrication environment.
  • Previous exposure to CNC equipment operation (laser cutting experience preferred).
  • Experience working with stainless steel or light fabrication materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings or demonstrate capability to develop this skill.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of fabrication processes.
  • Ability to learn estimating, pricing, and engineering production processes.
  • Current Class 1 driver’s licence required.
  • Proficiency using standard office systems and exposure to CAD software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and maintain productivity across multiple projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes.

  • Provide verifiable work experience documentation, including employment records and reference letters.
