An experienced Pipe Welding Team Leader is required to join a growing engineering and industrial services operation based in Nelson.

This role suits an experienced trade-qualified professional with strong pipe fabrication and welding capability who is ready to lead a team while remaining hands-on in delivery. The position involves supervising skilled tradespeople and delivering specialist pipe fabrication and welding solutions across a variety of industrial environments.

Successful applicants will work across diverse projects and industries and play an active role in leadership, training, quality, and technical delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise pipe welding and fabrication teams across multiple projects.
  • Carry out hands-on welding and fabrication work as required.
  • Fabricate and install pipe systems using stainless steel and mild steel materials.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to deliver accurate fabrication outcomes.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and coaching to team members.
  • Support estimating, quoting, job planning, and preparation of work packs.
  • Coordinate resources and proactively identify additional work opportunities.
  • Diagnose faults and develop practical engineering solutions for customer requirements.
  • Use digital systems and job management software to track and administer work activities.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, to standard, on budget, and within required timeframes.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 5 years of proven and documented experience in pipe fabrication and pipe welding.
  • At least 2 years proven leadership experience in the industry
  • Relevant engineering trade qualification (fabrication, welding, fitter/welder, boilermaker, or equivalent).
  • Strong working knowledge of pipe welding standards including ASME IX or equivalent.
  • Excellent understanding of fabrication machinery, welding equipment, and engineering processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Previous experience leading teams or demonstrated readiness to step into a leadership position.
  • Comfortable using computer systems and software for administration and job tracking.
  • Current driver’s licence (minimum Class 1 or equivalent capable of conversion).
  • Strong diagnostic, fault-finding, and problem-solving ability.
