Experienced Dairy Herd Manager required for a full-time position in Southland New Zealand. The role involves managing day-to-day herd operations to support milk production, animal welfare, farm efficiency, and compliance with farm and industry standards.

This position suits experienced dairy professionals who are confident leading daily herd activities and maintaining high standards of livestock management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day care, health, and welfare of dairy cattle.
  • Coordinate and oversee milking operations and herd routines.
  • Monitor herd performance including milk production, reproduction, feeding, and animal condition.
  • Identify and respond to animal health concerns and arrange treatment where required.
  • Manage stock movements, calving activities, and mating programmes.
  • Assist with pasture and feed management to support herd productivity.
  • Operate and maintain farm equipment and machinery where required.
  • Maintain accurate farm records including herd health, production, and compliance documentation.
  • Support implementation of farm health, safety, environmental, and biosecurity procedures.
  • Assist with supervising and supporting farm staff where required.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 3 years of proven and documented experience working in dairy farming operations, including herd management responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of dairy herd management, milking systems, animal health, feeding, and pasture management.
  • Experience identifying and responding to common dairy animal health issues.
  • Ability to work independently and manage daily farm operations efficiently.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Current driver’s licence preferred.
  • Relevant agricultural, dairy, or livestock qualification is advantageous but not essential.
