Refrigeration Technicians

(ANZSCO: 342111 – Skill Level 3)

Experienced and qualified Refrigeration Technicians are required to install, service, and maintain commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. These roles are suited to technicians with experience working on CO₂ (CO2) and/or Ammonia systems, with a strong focus on safety, performance, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, service, and maintain refrigeration systems across commercial and industrial environments.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on refrigeration and cooling systems.
  • Work on CO₂ and/or Ammonia refrigeration systems, ensuring safe handling and compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance to ensure system efficiency and reliability.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Complete all service documentation accurately, including job reports and maintenance records.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Work independently on-site and as part of a wider team when required.
  • Participate in on-call or breakdown response rosters as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 5 years of proven and documented experience as a Refrigeration Technician, including experience with CO₂ and/or Ammonia systems.
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems, controls, and fault-finding techniques.
  • Relevant trade qualification in refrigeration, HVAC, or mechanical services is an advantage.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Ability to meet Immigration New Zealand’s English language requirements for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), with acceptable evidence provided at the time of application.
  • Ability to meet Immigration New Zealand’s health and character requirements for the AEWV.
  • All work experience must be supported by verifiable documentation (e.g. reference letters, employment records).

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience working on large-scale commercial or industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements for natural refrigerants (CO₂ / Ammonia).
  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and high-quality workmanship
