Welder / Fabricator
Location: Whangārei, Northland
(ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
An experienced Welder/Fabricator is required for a full-time role in a busy fabrication and engineering environment. This position involves reading plans, preparing materials, welding components, assembling fabricated items, and ensuring all finished work meets required quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities

Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, welding symbols, sketches, and technical specifications.

Measure, mark, cut, align, fit, and weld components according to job requirements.

Carry out TIG, MIG, Arc, and MMA welding using manual and semi-automatic welding equipment.

Select appropriate welding equipment and methods based on materials and specifications.

Prepare materials using tools such as powered saws, grinders, callipers, rulers, clamps, and hand tools.

Weld components in various positions including vertical, horizontal, and overhead.

Repair machinery, pipe components, systems, and fabricated structures where required.

Inspect and test welded surfaces and structures to identify faults or defects.

Finish products by cleaning, grinding, polishing, filing, and smoothing welds.

Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.

Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and wear required PPE.
Minimum Requirements

At least 5 years of proven and documented experience in welding and fabrication.

Proven experience using TIG, MIG, Arc, and/or MMA welding techniques.

Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, blueprints, and welding symbols.

Good working knowledge of fabrication tools, welding equipment, and measuring instruments.

Knowledge of relevant safety standards and willingness to use protective equipment at all times.

Physically fit and able to carry out manual fabrication and welding tasks.

Must meet Immigration New Zealand’s English language requirements for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), with acceptable English evidence provided at the time of application.

Must meet Immigration New Zealand’s health and character requirements for the AEWV.

All work experience must be supported by verifiable documentation such as reference letters, employment records, or contracts.
Preferred Attributes

Relevant welding, fabrication, or engineering qualification.

Experience with pipe welding, pipe fabrication, and repair work.

Working knowledge of AWS, API, ANSI, or ASME codes and standards.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Position Details

Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week, up to 50 hours per week

Overtime: Overtime may be available and paid in accordance with employment terms
