Position Summary:
Seeking a qualified and experienced Halal Slaughterer to join a meat processing team in Napier. This role is critical in ensuring Halal-compliant practices in accordance with Islamic slaughtering requirements, while meeting New Zealand food safety and export standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform humane slaughtering of livestock in compliance with Halal procedures and New Zealand animal welfare regulations.
- Conduct all slaughtering in accordance with Islamic rites, under the supervision of a Halal certifying authority.
- Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and quality assurance standards.
- Use knives and equipment for precision cutting and dressing of carcasses.
- Maintain clean and safe working environments in slaughtering and processing areas.
- Record and report any irregularities, non-compliance, or deviations during the slaughtering process.
- Collaborate with quality assurance staff and supervisors to ensure operational standards are met.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Valid Halal Slaughtering Certificate
issued or recognised by a registered Halal authority.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in meat processing, knife handling, or slaughtering roles.
- Proven knowledge of animal welfare standards and Halal compliance protocols.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including standing for long periods and handling livestock.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug screening test.
- Ability to meet Immigration New Zealand's English language requirements for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) — evidence of English proficiency must be provided at the time of application.
