Spray Painter

Experienced Spray Painters are required for full-time opportunities in New Zealand.

We are looking for skilled painters with strong professional spray-painting experience who can prepare surfaces and apply coatings to a consistently high standard. Applicants should be confident operating commercial spray equipment and completing the full painting process from surface preparation through to final finishing.

The role may involve residential, commercial and/or industrial painting depending on project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply paint and protective coatings using airless and conventional spray equipment.
• Prepare surfaces before painting, including cleaning, sanding, scraping, filling and masking.
• Mix and prepare paints, primers and coatings according to specifications.
• Set up, operate and adjust spray-painting equipment.
• Apply primers, undercoats and finishing coats.
• Achieve consistent coverage, finish and coating thickness.
• Mask and protect surrounding surfaces before spraying.
• Identify surface defects and complete necessary preparation or repairs.
• Carry out brush and roller painting where required.
• Clean and maintain spray guns, pumps, hoses and associated equipment.
• Work safely with paints, solvents and coating products.
• Follow product specifications and application requirements.
• Maintain clean and organised work areas.
• Follow workplace health and safety requirements, including correct PPE and respiratory protection.
• Work effectively independently and as part of a painting team.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 3 years of proven and verifiable professional painting experience.
• Strong commercial spray-painting experience.
• Proven ability to operate airless and/or conventional spray equipment.
• Strong surface preparation skills.
• Experience applying primers, paints and protective coatings.
• Ability to produce a consistent, high-quality sprayed finish.
• Experience with brush and roller application.
• Good understanding of paint preparation, mixing and application techniques.
• Ability to correctly mask and protect surrounding surfaces.
• Physically fit and capable of undertaking practical painting work.
• Comfortable working outdoors and, where required, at heights.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
• Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
• Reliable, hardworking and able to work effectively within a team.

Preferred Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

• Airless spray painting.
• Residential and commercial spray painting.
• Industrial spray painting.
• Protective coatings.
• Fireproof or intumescent coatings.
• Two-component or specialised coating systems.
• Plastering, stopping or surface repairs.
• Working from scaffolding or elevated work platforms.
• Brush and roller finishing.
• Relevant painting or coating qualifications.
• Current driver's licence, including experience driving a manual vehicle.

Work Experience Evidence

Applicants must be able to provide verifiable evidence of their relevant painting experience.

Evidence may include:

• Employment reference or experience letters.
• Certificates of employment.
• Employment contracts.
• Payslips or payroll records.
• Tax or social security records where available.
• Trade certificates or qualifications.
• Other reliable documentation confirming employment, duties and length of experience.

• Meet the applicable Immigration New Zealand requirements for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
• Meet any applicable Immigration New Zealand English language requirements.
• Meet Immigration New Zealand health requirements, including medical examinations where required.
• Meet Immigration New Zealand character requirements, including police certificates where required.
• Provide satisfactory evidence supporting their qualifications, employment history, skills and experience.
• Be able to obtain the appropriate New Zealand work visa before commencing employment.
