Expected Start: Late October / November 2026

Experienced Steel Fixers are required for an ongoing construction project in Christchurch, New Zealand, with positions expected to commence from late October / November 2026.

These roles are suited to skilled and experienced steel fixers with a strong background preparing, positioning and securing reinforcing steel for concrete structures. Successful applicants will join an established site team working on a long-term project and must be able to work accurately from construction drawings and specifications while maintaining high standards of workmanship and workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Position and secure reinforcing steel bars, mesh and other reinforcement materials.
  • Cut, bend and shape reinforcing steel according to construction specifications.
  • Tie reinforcing steel using wire, clips and appropriate fixing methods.
  • Assemble reinforcing cages and steel frameworks for concrete structures.
  • Install reinforcement for foundations, slabs, walls, columns, beams and other structural concrete elements.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, reinforcement schedules and specifications.
  • Measure and position reinforcing steel accurately before concrete placement.
  • Use hand tools, power tools and steel cutting and bending equipment safely.
  • Work alongside concreters, formworkers and other trades on site.
  • Inspect completed reinforcement to ensure it meets drawings and project requirements.
  • Follow all site health and safety procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 3 years of proven and documented experience working as a Steel Fixer.
  • Strong experience cutting, bending, positioning and tying reinforcing steel.
  • Experience installing reinforcing mesh, bars and fabricated reinforcement assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans and reinforcement schedules.
  • Good understanding of reinforced concrete construction methods.
  • Experience using steel fixing tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Physically fit and capable of undertaking repetitive and physically demanding construction work.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an established site team.
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • Relevant trade or construction qualifications are advantageous.
  • Current driver's licence is preferred.

Work Experience Evidence

Applicants must provide verifiable documentation confirming their relevant steel fixing experience.

  • Certificates of employment.
  • Employment contracts.
  • Payslips or payroll records.
  • Tax or social security records where available.
  • Other reliable documentation confirming employment, duties and length of experience.

Applicants unable to provide sufficient evidence of their claimed work experience will not be considered.

Immigration Requirements

Applicants requiring visa support must:

  • Meet the applicable Immigration New Zealand requirements for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
  • Meet Immigration New Zealand's applicable English language requirements, with acceptable evidence provided where required.
  • Meet Immigration New Zealand's health requirements, including medical examinations where required.
  • Meet Immigration New Zealand's character requirements, including police certificates where required.
  • Provide satisfactory evidence supporting their qualifications, employment history, skills and experience.
  • Be able to meet the necessary immigration and employment requirements to commence work from approximately late October / November 2026.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience working on large-scale commercial, civil or infrastructure construction projects.
  • Experience working from detailed reinforcement drawings and bar schedules.
  • Experience with foundations, slabs, columns, beams and structural concrete.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately to measurements.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable, hardworking and able to meet project deadlines.
  • Willingness to work additional hours where required.
