Experienced Roofer

Experienced Roofers are required for full-time positions with an established New Zealand roofing business.

We are looking for skilled tradespeople with a strong background in roofing who can work independently, accurately and safely. Applicants must have at least 5 years of proven professional roofing experience and be confident completing roofing work to a high standard.

The role involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions and at heights, so applicants must be physically fit, safety-conscious and comfortable working on residential and/or commercial roofing projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, repair, replace and maintain roofing systems.
• Install long-run metal roofing, flashings, ridging and associated roofing components.
• Remove existing roofing materials and prepare roof surfaces for installation.
• Measure, mark, cut and fit roofing materials accurately.
• Install roofing underlay, insulation and associated weatherproofing materials where required.
• Install flashings around roof penetrations, valleys, edges and junctions.
• Identify and repair leaks, damaged roofing and weatherproofing issues.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, plans and job specifications.
• Calculate material requirements and complete work with minimal wastage.
• Use roofing tools, power tools and equipment safely and effectively.
• Work safely from ladders, scaffolding and other approved height-access systems.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure completed roofing is weathertight.
• Follow all site health and safety procedures, particularly requirements relating to working at heights.
• Work effectively independently and as part of an established roofing or construction team.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 5 years of proven and verifiable professional roofing experience.
• Strong practical experience installing, repairing and maintaining roofing systems.
• Experience with metal roofing and associated flashings is strongly preferred.
• Ability to measure, cut, fit and install roofing materials accurately.
• Good understanding of roof weatherproofing and water management.
• Ability to identify and resolve roofing installation and repair issues.
• Confident and experienced working safely at heights.
• Physically fit and comfortable undertaking demanding outdoor work.
• Ability to use roofing hand tools and power tools safely.
• Strong attention to detail and high standard of workmanship.
• Good understanding of construction site health and safety requirements.
• Reliable, hardworking and able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Relevant roofing or construction trade qualifications are advantageous.
• A current driver's licence is preferred.

Preferred Experience

• Long-run metal roofing.

• Re-roofing and roof replacement.
• Flashing installation and fabrication.
• Roof repairs and leak detection.
• Corrugated and trapezoidal roofing profiles.
• Roofing underlay and insulation installation.
• Working from construction drawings and specifications.
• Safe working at heights and fall-protection systems.

Work Experience Evidence

Applicants must be able to provide verifiable evidence confirming at least 5 years of relevant roofing experience.

Evidence may include:

• Employment reference or experience letters.
• Certificates of employment.
• Employment contracts.
• Payslips or payroll records.
• Tax or social security records where available.
• Trade certificates or qualifications.
• Other reliable documentation confirming employment, duties and length of experience.

Applicants unable to provide sufficient evidence of their claimed roofing experience may not be considered.

• Meet the applicable Immigration New Zealand requirements for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
• Meet any applicable Immigration New Zealand English language requirements.
• Meet Immigration New Zealand health requirements, including medical examinations where required.
• Meet Immigration New Zealand character requirements, including police certificates where required.
• Provide satisfactory evidence supporting their qualifications, employment history, skills and experience.
• Be able to obtain the appropriate New Zealand work visa before commencing employment.
