Industrial Painter - Hawkes Bay

Experienced Industrial Painters are required for full-time opportunities in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.

These positions are suited to experienced painters with a broad range of industrial and commercial painting skills. Applicants with experience across fireproof coatings, spray painting, plastering, roller and brush application are particularly encouraged to apply.

The ideal applicant will be versatile, physically fit and willing to undertake a variety of painting and surface preparation work.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces prior to painting and coating application.
• Apply industrial and protective coating systems.
• Apply fireproof and fire-resistant coatings where appropriately experienced.
• Carry out spray painting using appropriate industrial equipment.
• Apply coatings using rollers and brushes.
• Undertake plastering, patching and surface preparation where required.
• Sand, grind, clean and prepare surfaces for coating.
• Mix and prepare paints and coatings according to specifications.
• Mask and protect surrounding surfaces before painting.
• Identify surface defects and undertake appropriate preparation or remedial work.
• Maintain painting and spraying equipment.
• Work safely from ladders, scaffolding or elevated work areas where appropriately trained.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Follow all workplace health and safety requirements.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 3 years of proven and verifiable painting experience.
• Experience within industrial, commercial or protective coating environments.
• Practical experience in several painting application methods, ideally including spray, roller and brush.
• Good understanding of surface preparation.
• Physically fit and capable of undertaking demanding and repetitive work.
• Comfortable working in industrial and construction environments.
• Willingness to learn New Zealand work practices, safety requirements and workplace expectations.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic and ability to work effectively within a team.
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain a high standard of workmanship.
• Able to drive a manual vehicle.
• Current driver's licence or ability to meet the applicable New Zealand driver licensing requirements.

Preferred Experience

Applicants with a combination of the following skills will be particularly highly regarded:

• Industrial spray painting.
• Fireproof or intumescent coating application.
• Protective coatings.
• Plastering and patching.
• Roller application.
• Brush application.
• Airless spray equipment.
• Structural steel painting.
• Surface preparation.
• Commercial painting.
• Working at heights.
• Industrial or construction site experience.

Applicants do not necessarily need experience in every area; however, those with a broad range of painting and coating skills will be particularly well suited to the position.

• Employment contracts.
• Payslips or payroll records.
• Tax or social security records where available.
• Relevant trade or industry certificates.
• Other reliable documentation confirming employment, duties and length of experience.

References should ideally describe the applicant's actual painting duties, including the application methods and types of coatings they have experience using.

Applicants unable to provide sufficient evidence of their claimed experience may not be considered.

Driving Requirements

Applicants must be comfortable driving a manual vehicle and should hold a current driver's licence.
