Painting Trades Worker

Experienced Painting Trades Workers are required for full-time opportunities in the Waikato region.

These positions are suited to skilled painters with strong practical experience across residential, commercial and/or industrial painting. Successful applicants must be capable of completing the full painting process, from surface preparation through to final coats and finishing, while maintaining a consistently high standard of workmanship.

Applicants should be experienced tradespeople who can work independently when required and contribute effectively as part of an established team.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare interior and exterior surfaces for painting.
• Remove old paint, coatings and other surface materials where required.
• Clean, sand, scrape and prepare surfaces prior to painting.
• Fill holes, cracks and imperfections and complete minor surface repairs.
• Apply primers, sealers, undercoats and finishing coats.
• Apply paint using brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
• Mix and prepare paints and coatings to achieve required colours and finishes.
• Mask and protect surrounding surfaces, fixtures and fittings.
• Apply paint to walls, ceilings, doors, frames, exterior cladding and other building surfaces.
• Produce clean lines and consistent, high-quality finishes.
• Identify surface defects and determine appropriate preparation methods.
• Calculate and prepare materials required for individual jobs.
• Erect and work safely from ladders, scaffolding and other approved access equipment.
• Maintain painting tools and equipment in good working condition.
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
• Maintain clean and organised work areas.
• Work effectively independently and as part of a painting team.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 3 years of proven and verifiable professional painting experience.
• Strong experience undertaking surface preparation and painting work.
• Competent using brushes and rollers to a professional standard.
• Experience with spray painting is advantageous.
• Ability to prepare surfaces correctly before applying coatings.
• Good knowledge of paints, primers, sealers and coating systems.
• Ability to produce consistently high-quality finishes.
• Experience completing both interior and exterior painting work.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
• Comfortable working at heights where required.
• Physically fit and capable of undertaking practical painting work.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
• Reliable, hardworking and able to work effectively within a team.
• Relevant painting or decorating trade qualifications are advantageous.
• A current driver's licence is preferred.

Preferred Experience

Experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous:

• Residential painting.
• Commercial painting.
• New-build construction.
• Renovation and repainting work.
• Exterior painting.
• Spray painting and airless spray equipment.
• Plastering, stopping and surface repairs.
• Protective coatings.
• Brush and roller finishing.
• Working from scaffolding and elevated work platforms.
• Relevant Painting and Decorating qualifications.

Work Experience Evidence

Applicants must be able to provide verifiable evidence of their relevant painting experience.

Evidence may include:

• Employment reference or experience letters.
• Certificates of employment.
• Employment contracts.
• Payslips or payroll records.
• Tax or social security records where available.
• Trade certificates or qualifications.
• Other reliable documentation confirming employment, duties and length of experience.

Immigration Requirements

Applicants requiring visa support must:

• Meet the applicable Immigration New Zealand requirements for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
• Meet any applicable Immigration New Zealand English language requirements.
• Meet Immigration New Zealand health requirements, including medical examinations where required.
• Meet Immigration New Zealand character requirements, including police certificates where required.
• Provide satisfactory evidence supporting their qualifications, employment history, skills and experience.
• Be able to obtain the appropriate New Zealand work visa before commencing employment.
