Fitter
Accredited EmployerAn experienced Mechanical Fitter is required for a full-time position in New Zealand.
This role is suited to a skilled tradesperson with strong mechanical fitting, maintenance and fault-finding experience. The successful applicant will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair and overhaul of industrial machinery, plant and mechanical equipment.
Applicants with experience in manufacturing, industrial plants, heavy engineering, processing facilities or similar environments are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, repair and overhaul industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and determine appropriate repairs.
- Dismantle machinery and equipment to inspect components for wear or damage.
- Repair or replace bearings, shafts, seals, couplings, gears and other mechanical components.
- Assemble and fit mechanical components accurately to specifications.
- Carry out preventative and scheduled maintenance.
- Perform machinery alignment and adjustment.
- Use precision measuring equipment to check tolerances and clearances.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals and specifications.
- Work with pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors and other industrial equipment.
- Assist with machinery installation, commissioning and shutdown work where required.
- Undertake basic fabrication and welding tasks where appropriately skilled.
- Identify equipment reliability issues and recommend appropriate repairs or improvements.
- Complete maintenance and service documentation accurately.
- Follow all workplace health and safety procedures.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 3 years of proven and verifiable experience working as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter or in a closely related mechanical trade.
- Strong mechanical fitting and maintenance experience.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair mechanical equipment.
- Experience dismantling, repairing and reassembling machinery.
- Good knowledge of bearings, shafts, seals, couplings, gearboxes and other mechanical components.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical information.
- Competent using mechanical fitting tools and precision measuring equipment.
- Relevant mechanical engineering or fitting trade qualification is highly advantageous.
- Strong mechanical problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Physically fit and capable of undertaking practical industrial maintenance work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of an established maintenance or engineering team.
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Current driver's licence is preferred.
Work Experience Evidence

Evidence may include employment reference or experience letters, certificates of employment, employment contracts, payslips or payroll records, tax or social security records, trade qualifications, or other reliable documentation confirming employment, duties and length of experience.
Applicants unable to provide sufficient evidence of their claimed experience may not be considered.
Immigration Requirements

- Meet the applicable Immigration New Zealand requirements for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
- Meet any applicable Immigration New Zealand English language requirements, with acceptable evidence provided where required.
- Meet Immigration New Zealand's health and character requirements.
- Provide satisfactory evidence supporting their qualifications, employment history, skills and experience.
- Be able to obtain the appropriate New Zealand work visa before commencing employment.
Preferred Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded:
- Industrial or manufacturing plant maintenance.
- Pumps, motors, conveyors and gearboxes.
- Bearings, shafts, seals and mechanical drives.
- Preventative and breakdown maintenance.
- Machinery installation and commissioning.
- Plant shutdowns and major maintenance.
- Hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Welding and fabrication.
- Heavy engineering or processing environments.
