Experienced Hammer Hands are required for full-time opportunities working on commercial interior construction projects in New Zealand.

This role involves assisting with the installation of high-quality commercial ceilings and interior systems, including GIB fixings, suspended ceilings, steel stud framing, specialist linings and aluminium partitioning.

The position is suited to practical construction workers with good hands-on building skills who can accurately measure and cut materials, use construction tools safely and work effectively under the direction of experienced tradespeople and site supervisors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation of suspended ceiling systems.
  • Install steel stud framing.
  • Assist with GIB fixing and interior lining installation.
  • Install specialist wall and ceiling linings.
  • Assist with aluminium partitioning systems.
  • Measure, mark and cut materials accurately according to plans and instructions.
  • Read and follow basic construction plans and drawings.
  • Use materials and products according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Assist with checking and preparing materials before installation.
  • Identify and report defects in materials or completed work.
  • Prepare and organise work areas before installation.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Keep construction sites clean, tidy and organised.
  • Complete work to a high standard of finish.
  • Follow site-specific safety procedures and instructions.
  • Report hazards, incidents and unsafe equipment immediately.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 2 years of proven and verifiable experience within the building and construction industry.
  • Practical construction, carpentry, interior installation or similar hands-on experience.
  • Experience using common construction hand and power tools.
  • Ability to accurately measure and cut construction materials.
  • Physically fit and strong enough to undertake a demanding construction workload.
  • Good practical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow construction and safety procedures.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Reliable and able to consistently arrive at work on time.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Willingness to learn and develop additional construction skills.
  • Able to pass pre-employment medical and drug testing.

The underlying job description specifically identifies 2+ years' building and construction experience, physical fitness, safe working practices, reliability, communication, numeracy/literacy and the ability to pass medical and drug testing.

  • Meet the applicable Immigration New Zealand requirements for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
  • Meet any applicable Immigration New Zealand English language requirements.

  • Provide satisfactory evidence supporting their employment history, skills and experience.
